Georgette Heyer Marathon

The Black Moth – Georgette Heyer
A disgraced gentleman comes across the black moth who happens to be a duke in process of kidnapping a pretty young girl, he is a highwayman by profession though not very seriously. He rescues the girl and gets injured while healing he meets old friends and there is lots of guilt and determination to clear his name from friends and the man who orchestrated it all, the Black Moth. This was her very first novel, it flows a bit differently than her other books. It has three areas where we peak in and jump between. But the story is very good, characters very round and likable. It was an enjoyable read and I like that the girl was not the main character but the guy. It was fun and silly and a very good read. I would recommend to those liking regency romances. As with all her books there very clean on the romance, I think there might be a kiss but I am not sure. The story is more the focus which means there is actually a plot and intrigue.

The Tollgate- Georgette Heyer
Very good story, guy comes across a toll gate to find a little boy running it, his dad had left him and run off. The main character sticks around to find out what happens and comes across thieves, murder, and a very pretty girl in the mix. It is clever and fun and had me laughing throughout most of the book. Another great book by Georgette Heyer, her books are always full of great characters and a smidgen of mystery.

The Masqueraders – Georgette Heyer
This has to be one of the silliest of her books; Brother and sister are dressed as the opposite gender and are in hiding. Their father shows up posing as a Nobleman and a quiet tall man they like to call the mountain sees through their disguises. Silly and fun with a masque hero and one man playing around with the fate of everyone involved. I really enjoyed this book, the dad is hilarious and there are lots of laughs.

Personal Update and Book Review- Deja Dead- Kathy Reich

I have not heard from the company about the interview. Thinking that might be a not so good sign. Good news is I won a book. Sadly, I am not receiving the book because my cover was voted in the top three, but because of a clerical error. Oh well, I still will get something to read. I am very excited; I have been hoping to get a job so I can start buying books again. I love books. I just finished one that is not my usual fare.

Déjà Dead – Kathy Reich.

This is the series which was the inspiration for the Bones television show. The books are very different, instead of a single super intelligent person who is socially awkward, the book has a mom who is divorced and actually uses her ability to read people to figure out the case. She has to call experts to get information about the bones. It was a good book, probably will not read the rest only because I am not a fan of the main character being stalked while the people she knows gets hacked to bits. I am all for catching murders, but I don’t want to live in it.

I knew when I picked it up it would be nothing like the TV show, which is sad I love Bones and cannot get enough of Temperance Brennan who is so intelligent and open to the world. I would have to say the Temperance in the book was more like Booths character on the show with a bit of science thrown in. The books are more based on story and the mystery, where the TV show is more of a character and facts based which I like. I love the knowledge and using it to catch the bad guys. The fact that the bones are what tell them what happened. I am sure it’s not very realistic, but it’s a happy dream world I am glad to live in.

As for the book, if you love horror movies and mystery you will love this book. Well written, and able to follow without too many lulls that you get board or thing ‘OK when is it going to end.’ Even though it is not my usual kind of book it was a fun step out and I recommend it to the murder enthusiasts.

Interviews

I wish I could be confident and relaxed in an interview and I cannot. I feel my desire for the job makes me so nervous I fail at what I try to do. I do not do anything majorly wrong I just get so scared. I want to prove that I am a hard worker, smart. I can do anything if told how. I would be an excellent employee to anyone that would hire me. My skill base is broad and I adapt to any situation with ease. I can be happy anywhere. I work well independently or in a team. I just wish I could show them. I desire that so much it hinders me.
I am only like this for two things, test and job interviews. I can sit down with a group of customers and be just fine, professional, happy, and personable. But put me in a room with 4 people who are in charge of hiring and I get nervous, talk too much and don’t show off how happy and confident I am. I am great at sales. People like working with me. I have got to fix this problem. I just want to express my greatest qualities to them so they can know how perfect I would be.
On a good note the place I interviewed was amazing. I would be so thrilled to work there. The job is exactly what I am looking for, the people are nice, and the facility was lovely. Hopefully they can over look my nerves. Sadly the only time they get to meet me is when I am nervous.

Lauren Willig Cover Contest

I designed a few covers for the Lauren Willig Cover contest. Found on her site here.. Here I ask those who would like to, go and vote for their favorite covers. Note there may have been cheating and i am not asking you to vote for my covers just your favorites. It looks like someone is stacking votes which is really frustrating. I would suggest if you have not looked at her covers before go to books and glance them over so you can pick covers that would match the trends of the older books. The winner gets a copy of The Orchid Affair which is awesome. Lauren Willig has also posted other prizes going to be one big woopie! Happy voting

Lauren Willig’s The Orchid Affair

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/865/428/694

The loyal fan base of Lauren Willig’s Historical romance novels have a petition going. We are trying to petition Dutton to change the cover of The Orchid Affair. They have gone away from the tradition of the first 6 novels of historical art work featuring sophisticated women to that of the typical cover of the common trashy romance novel. Now as there is nothing wrong with those books it does seem unfair to classify Lauren Willig’s novels as such. Her books have far more class, history, mystery and in essence more substance than the historical porn out there. Those looking for such would pick up the current cover and be disappointed. I do not mind that the paperbacks can have this design. But please keep to the wonderful tradition of these covers. I would be embarrassed to own this book and will not buy it if the cover changes. I cannot imagine reading this book in public.

Ebay VS Amazon

It is hard to know why people use eBay. You are unable to see the items beforehand. Movies are likely bootleg versions and books often have a smoke sent. Yes, you are likely to get a good price. Is it really worth it to get the book that smells like smoke, or the DVD that is copied and doesn’t play? Seems to me like a waste of money. If there was some sort of standard or way to guarantee the item it would make sense. EBay does have its buyer protection which I used because the DVD i purchased did not play.

I use Amazon, You have a EBay like situation where you can by objects from other sellers but often Amazon has the best price anyways. I have always been very satisfied with their service and products. After the DVD failed I did spend 10 more dollars and bought it on Amazon but it was a legal copy and it played perfectly.

I guess it is all price and how much it means to you to have the item work out. I rather pay more and get the item I want, not a knock off or one that is damaged. It may be cheaper but I am more satisfied with the quality and service. Plus Amazon has free 2 day shipping with their prime account. This is an amazing feature because you can have an account and invite others to take advantage of the free shipping. It is great around.

My conclusion is Amazon wins. But again it does depend on what you want. If you want to be satisfied and happy with your product go to Amazon
